Unusual Investments

At Dixcart we specialise in dealing with individual client requirements. Clients do not always invest in normal financial instruments, but in a broad spectrum of other investments.

Through our experience in structuring international investments and our worldwide network of contacts, we can ensure that a tax-efficient vehicle is used for the investment and, if required, introduce you to institutions that can help with the choice of investment.

For an example of the type of advice we can give, see our article 79 on UK Property Investment.

A client will normally come to us with the initial request to assist in the purchase of a particular investment, or to invest in a particular country. We do also approach our clients to advise them of opportunities of which they may not be aware.

When advising a client on a particular purchase, we look into the strategic reason for the purchase, how long the asset is likely to be held, where the likely exit route will be and the taxes and duties payable on the purchase and sale. We also investigate whether there are any exchange control barriers to avoid, the income expected from the asset and how the taxes on the income can be minimised.

We consult with the client and their local advisers. If they do not have advisers in the country where the asset is located, our network of contacts can suggest individuals and take advice from them on the local situation. We will then suggest a structure through which the investment will be held and, if agreed, establish it.

It is seldom difficult to take funds into a country to purchase an investment, but it can often be difficult to extract the resulting income earned by the investment, or the sale proceeds on the disposal of the investment.

Investing in countries other than the country of residence of a client can have many unexpected pitfalls and problems. Dixcart will anticipate these problems, proposing and providing solutions that work, not just in theory but in practice.
